Play all day
Set in a cartoon girl's bedroom, Magic Lantern is a virtual playground aimed at younger children. The main focus is around a projector, the magic lantern of the title, which can play a number of different films based on positive messages and learning. A range of toys are also available for play and physical manipulation, a cat wanders about and a few small mini-games are available. Some issues with physical detections are apparent, but overall the game is a gentle way for children to explore VR. One bizarre entry to the film library, alongside classics like Alice in Wonderland, is the alien invasion tale War of the Worlds which parents may wish to be aware of.
Magic Lantern is one of the rare virtual reality games focused on young children. Some technical issues notwithstanding, this sandbox is a well-designed experience.
